Land (Edwin H.) is born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

May 7, 1909

The son of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, Edwin Land comes to Boston to attend Harvard College in 1926, drops out to conduct research on polarizing light technology, and with his former Harvard instructor George Wheelwright founds what subsequently becomes the Polaroid Corporation in 1932.* One of the leading inventors and developers of technology of the 20th century, Land develops the first “instant camera” in 1947 and it goes on sale in 1948.* He dies in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 1, 1991, and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
